The Brave Cocoon

On the first Sunday of the month, for the past 11 months, I have joined a group of amazing woman for a Zoom call. It started as an accountability group that I named Cocoon and it very much ended up living up to its name – a place to envelop or surround in a protective or comforting way. The time is nourishing, the support is enriching, the conversations real and open. It feels like a big hug being wrapped around me from all around the world.

In 2020 with so much change, when so many of our plans for the year have been put on hold, it has been a wonderful place to return to each month. What we said we wanted out of the year may not have come to fruition, but we have learned along the way and are ready to leave this year behind!

Cocoon is a wonderful way to connect to ourselves. Once a month we ask – are we living the life we want or are we wearing and enrolling narratives that aren’t actually ours? On our session yesterday the theme that came up was being unapologetically you. To embrace the dichotomies of who we are. To be able to stay true to what is important to us. To make time for ourselves and do what needs to be done. To let go of the narratives or stories or goals that we once thought were ours but no longer fit.

As I was walking to do some volunteering yesterday, Sara Bareille’s song Brave came on and it was the right words at the right time:

Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

May we all find ways to know who we are and then find the brave within us to share that with the world.
May we all find a group of amazing and encouraging women to give us a virtual hug each month and allow us to be reminded of what is important and who we are.
May we continue to seek to live well, connect well and be well.
